I grew up listening to Freddy Fender and all the great Latino singers. My parents showed me how great it was to be chicano so to speak because everyone wants to label us as Mexicans when I was born in San Antonio. You will be missed Freddy Fender vaya con dios and rest in peace. aaaaaaaaaahuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaa

My dad is about the same age as Freddy and is also a Mexican-American. I can remember growing up to his songs and listening to them on 8-track. My father is living in Mexico and will be saddened by the news of his passing. God bless you all and be with you during this time of saddness.

When I was younger, I remember listening to Freddy's comments about racism and thinking how brave this man was to expose the racial issues that we knew existed and experienced, but no one really talked about it. Especially using public forums to discuss these issues as he did. These were unselfish acts considering the possible negative impact on Freddy's career and success.
To Freddy's family, be proud that he was one of the first to begin breaking through these barriers. He was brave and courageous to talk about his convictions in a time when the world didn't want to listen. He is a legend.
My deepest condolence's to Freddys Family.

Back in the 70's my former husband was a concert promoter. After the shows many of the performers would quickly leave. Freddy invited the promoters and friends, about 10 of us up to his hotel room, where he sang and told stories until the wee hours of the morning. He told stories about his son, his past, his family all with great joy and laughing. It was like visiting with a longtime friend. As a favor to my husband (even after a long trip to get to Fresno) he agreed to stop by my mother in laws home to surprise her, as she was a great fan. She was so excited that a big star like Freddy was in her home and that she was in "curlers".
What a down to earth, everyday kind of guy with a God given talent that he used to give joy to so many people. God Bless his family and may they find comfort in all that he passed down to them by way of his legacy of music and kindness.

I grew up listening to Freddies music and I have always considered Freddy to Be a great singer/musician. I believe that God needed another great musician for his band in Heaven. To the Fender family, I extend my sympathies and to thank Freddy for the great style of music he gave us over the years. GOD BLESS YOU FREDDY. Until The Next Tear Drop Falls.
